Waupun: “Prisoners languish alone, in a cramped, small concrete cell, for 23 to 24 hours a day….” [12/29/17]

A 12/29/17 letter was sent by a prisoner at Waupun Correctional. It announced a planned hunger strike of 11 people starting 1/2/18, defying abusive conditions in restrictive housing unit at the prison. An excerpt from this letter:

“Prisoners languish alone, in a cramped, small concrete cell, for 23 to 24 hours a day. They are denied telephone calls, contact visits, and vocational, or educational programming. Waupun officials persistently deny prisoners the normal human contact necessary for a person’s mental and physical well-being.”

Conditions in the Wisconsinprison  system need to change.
