Excerpt from a letter by a prisoner at Stanley Correctional, sent 12/21/17:
“It was determined previously by S.C.I. HSU that alternative shoes were necessary along with AFO braces that caused scars…HSU refused to adhere to podiatrists’ recommendations, consequently; plaintiff purchased canteen vendor shoes and derived calluses, plantar warts, pain & swelling. HSU is going beyond their duties of compassionate care to cover up the gross negligence of raw plastic AFO braces, hard bottom shoes while fully aware of severe plantar fascilitis resulting in the multiple bruises This is not asking HSU to purchase my personal shoes, rather requesting medical permit to purchase supreme cushioned shoes w/o limitations.”
Conditions in the Wisconsin prison system need to change.
